Tim Powers
Member-at-large
Tim Powers wasn’t your typical kid. While others dreamt of being astronauts or doctors, Tim craved the time behind a microphone. His journey to becoming a successful voiceover actor (and coach) is anything but ordinary.
Tim discovered his passion for voice acting in grade school plays, usually playing “The Narrator” by default as early as first grade. His voice change at 9 solidified his path – everyone saw radio stardom in his future. Inspired by his love of The Beatles and the dying days of AM Top 40 radio, Tim dreamt of being the next Johnny Fever.
Fast forward to 18, and Tim was already a college radio program director, wielding the power of a 50,000-watt FM station in the St. Louis area. He witnessed the fading golden age of free-form radio, playing soon-to-be legends like The Cure and Depeche Mode. It was a time of crazy young people living and breathing music, not unlike the movie “Pirate Radio.”
While radio offered invaluable lessons (like “never believe your own press”), Tim craved more. He ventured into stand-up comedy and improv in Los Angeles, honing his performance skills. There, he met his voiceover mentor, the late Lori Tritel. She saw his potential and became his guide in the world of VO. Soon, Tim was working with clients like Disney, Warner Brothers, and Netflix.
Now a sought-after voice acting coach, Tim emphasizes the importance of performance over fancy equipment or “reading with style.” Voice acting is about captivating the listener, not just having a good voice. His approach draws on his improv theater training as well as years of success in voicing video games, national commercials, documentaries, and audio dramas. In fact, his legendary online “TimProv” workshops are offered regularly and are sold out more often than not.
So, there you have it! Tim Powers: radio rebel, voiceover extraordinaire, rock & roll enthusiast, and champion of good pizza (from St. Louis!).
Cameron Thomas
Member-at-large
Cameron first started in voiceovers after working as an Air Force weather forecaster and then a civilian meteorologist providing forecasts for radio stations from Palm Springs, to Boston and New York, and to the Caribbean, as well as local municipalities. Radio broadcast experience helped him transition to voice acting in 2007 and he has been at it since then working on mostly commercials, corporate video, and e-learning. While an active voice talent, he is also part of the Voice Actor Websites team developing websites for others in our industry. Cameron instantly noticed how helpful and caring the VO community was when he started. And he knows the voice acting industry needs a trusted home like World-Voices.org. Part of learning from the community, is giving back. He hopes to combine his VO experience and tech experience to help the community grow and thrive online and for conference events. Outside of the studio, Cameron enjoys motorcycle rides along the back roads of New England and playing drums in a local NH band. His meteorology background still comes in handy planning his yardwork and satisfying his compulsive lawn mowing disorder.
Barri Tsavaris
Member-at-large
Barri Tsavaris is an international voice and on-camera talent who began her acting career on the stages of New York City. After a decade, she went on to South Korea where she established and grew her voiceover business, ultimately becoming the Artistic Director of Seoul Players Theatre Company and a mentor to expat performers in Asia. She’s worked with the LA Chargers, Microsoft, BOSE, Toyota, Lego, Baby Shark, among many other clients, and was even the voice of the 2018 Winter Olympics. She has dubbed countless animations and video games, appeared in various Korean films and TV shows as well as commercials for Korean brands like LG, Samsung and Hyundai. Back stateside after 14 years abroad, Barri is now an official Ambassador for the Building Doors VO campaign, and is delighted to finally be in a time zone where she can get more involved with WoVO, and be of service the greater voiceover community.
Barri’s been behind the mic in some form or fashion since she was just 13 years old, delivering the morning announcements at her junior high school. She studied film and acting at Boston University and went on to be part of the Gotham City Improv in New York City as an improv and sketch comedian.
Think voice actor is the only label for Barri? Think again. Mother of cats, taker of risks, connector of people, dropper of F bombs (when appropriate of course) – Barri contains multitudes. She prioritizes her health and fitness, loves traveling with her Tri-Booth, and has been known to dance spontaneously at the drop of a hat.
